School screenings

Spend educational hours at the cinema!

Pedagogically valuable films regularly make it into our programme, which can be integrated excellently into the school curriculum or can offer valuable education even without this framework. In the following list you will find current and upcoming films that are particularly suitable for student screenings. Of course, it is possible for all film titles to have a student screening at special conditions.

School screenings are to be understood as an educational event, i.e. the performances are usually played without an intermission and without consumption.

PERSISCHSTUNDEN

Release date: 01 October 2020

By Vadim Perelman, with Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, Lars Eidinger, Leonie Benesch, Jonas Nay.

1942. Gilles, a young Belgian man, is arrested by the SS alongside other Jews and sent to a concentration camp in Germany. He narrowly avoids execution by swearing to the guards that he is not Jewish, but Persian. This lie temporarily saves him, but then Gilles is assigned a seemingly untenable mission: to teach Farsi to Koch, the officer in charge of the camp's kitchen, who dreams of opening a restaurant in Iran once the war is over. Gilles finds himself having to invent a language he doesn't know, word by word. As the unusual relationship between the two men begins to incite jealousy and suspicion, Gilles becomes acutely aware that one false move could expose his swindle.

THE WALL OF SHADOWS

THE WALL OF SHADOWS

Release date: 08 October 2020

By Eliza Kubarska.

When a Sherpa family is asked by a group of westerners to lead a trek up the never-conquered east wall of the imposing Kumbhakarna Mountain in Nepal, they’re confronted with a dilemma. Not only is the summit reputed to be more challenging than Mount Everest, but according to the local Kirant religion, it’s a sacred mountain that is not supposed to be ascended. While the father would like to earn the money necessary for his son’s education, the mother, a fierce woman who supports her boy’s dream of becoming a doctor, is adamant that they shouldn’t hike God’s body. Director Eliza Kubarska follows the expedition after the family agrees to guide the three foreigners, negotiating as best they can the pressure to finish the climb, the dangerous conditions and their own religious beliefs. Herself an experienced alpinist, Kubarska captures breathtaking images of the majestic landscape, honouring the spiritual dimension of the environment.
