Twelve-year-old Sun discovers that the story of the “ostrich child lost in the desert”—which her grandfather has been telling her since she was a child—is not a fairy tale, but true. In search of answers, she travels to the Sahara to find out who her grandfather really was—and who the little boy was. There she stumbles upon the incredible story of Hadara: a two-year-old tribal child from a nomadic family who gets lost during a sandstorm and seems doomed to die is taken in by a flock of ostriches. Hadara survives for ten years in the vastness of the Sahara until he is found and returned to his family.
