From THE ONES WE LOVE CLASSIC film series, we are showing A CLOCKWORK ORANGE by Stanley Kubrick from 1971. One of Stanley Kubrick's many masterpieces, perhaps the darkest of them all. The movie is based on the book of the same name by Anthony Burgess. The movie offers a disturbing depiction of a bleak future and follows young Alex DeLarge, who lives in a violent dystopian society and has a penchant for crime and Beethoven. After an arrest, Alex is subjected to a novel experiment in re-socialization, where he is conditioned with a technique called the “Ludovico Technique”. The film's plot explores profound questions about free will, the power of state control and the ethics of criminal justice policy. A CLOCKWORK ORANGE garnered both rave reviews and outrage due to its disturbing and controversial themes and portrayal. Despite the controversy, the film won the Golden Lion in Venice and was nominated for four Oscars. Not for the faint-hearted. Don't miss this opportunity!
