A middle-aged manager is laid off from a paper mill when cost-cutting measures are implemented. Eighteen months later, still unemployed, he takes a new approach to his job search: with agonizing care, he identifies seven men in his community who got the job he believes is rightfully his—and systematically kills them. He transforms from a mild-mannered middle manager into a ruthless killer, discovering abilities he never knew he possessed—and which come frighteningly easily to him.
